OUGD504 | STUDIO BRIEF 2 | LOGO RESEARCH

Now that I've chosen my kickstarter, I need to look into some existing logos for food/bread and see what's effective. I want something that's quite simple, e.g. a vector bagel, so it can be applied to lots of different deliverables. It would also be quite fun to personalise the bagels to the flavours that they provide. They have a wide range of bagel flavours which include Red Wine, Onion and Sun dried tomato.

Some examples of existing logos include:

I like how they've used the bagel to incorporate with the type, though I'm not keen on their colour choices. Personally, it reminds me of an airline and doesn't make me think of a nice warm bagel.

The Bagel Nash logo is friendly and more appealing. Their use of colour is more appropriate. The design of the bagel makes it look like steam, which insinuates that the bagels are hot and fresh. The lowercase sans serif looks very inviting and pleasant.

The New York Bakery co are a bakery that specialise in bagels. They have very iconic branding and their logo stands out on every colour of their packaging. The logo design links with the name and I like how you can recognise it straight away, even though their packaging is quite varied with the colour. A logo like this is easy to place on different deliverables, such as a menu or a website.

This is a logo from a company called Bagel'd. I like this logo, the colours go well together and it's instantly recognisable. The simple typeface makes it easy to read and it can be applied anywhere. This logo could also even work in black and white, which is another positive feature because of its versatility.

Looking at these logos have given me some ideas about what I want to create. The more successful approaches, I feel, are the more minimal, bold logos with a big impact. This is what The Bagelry needs. I think updating their appearance along with the brand values is something that will benefit their company.
