OUGD505 | STUDIO BRIEF 2 | INITIAL FEEDBACK

Veganism is the subject this brief is going to be based around.  Cowspiracy is a documentary that highlights the issues with animal agriculture, not only cruelty to animals but also the effect that mass production has on the environment. Some of the most shocking facts include:
  • Animal agriculture is responsible for 18% of greenhouse gas emissions, more than the combined exhaust from all transportation. Transportation exhaust is responsible for 13% of all greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Livestock covers 45% of the earth’s total land.
  • We could see fish-less oceans by 2048.
  • We are currently growing enough food to feed 10 billion people.
  • 82% of starving children live in countries where food is fed to animals, and the animals are eaten by western countries.
This isn't just an issue facing animal cruelty, but also a humanitarian issue that involves the planet where everyone lives.

I asked fellow classmates some questions about my proposed subject:

What is the best way to distribute this information?
- Cute little starter pack
- flyers, posters, guerrilla advertising
- make cuddly animals
- interviews with farmers and what they think about it

Should I pick just one aspect? e.g. greenhouse gasses, waste etc
- you could choose multiple and cover them in different packs
- target the one you feel is the most neglected
- which ever you find the most interesting in your research

I want to take a more educational tone, rather than shocking people. Is this suitable?
- educational would be more beneficial to make change
- yes, scaring people makes them uncomfortable and unlikely to do anything for fear
- yes! be fun and friendly
- yes! but dont overwhelm with text/info - people are lazy and dont read into it if it looks a lot
- I think getting feedback from people who are in animal agriculture would be more educational

From this feedback, it seems that the best way to go about this subject is to take an educational route, with a happy, friendly tone of voice. The best way to distribute this information seems to be quite varied in the feedback. The idea of a starter pack seems very appealing and could also run with the theme of children.
